OTN
Posted by Paria on November 8, 2006

Can you explain me the relationship between ASON and OTN. I mean is ASON a subset of OTN. Can we separate OTN and ASON from each other?

ASON and OTN are two complementary standards, and neither is a subset of the other. ASON automates the control of optical networks, to allow distributed, dynamic path setup and restoration. ASON can control SONET/SDH networks and OTN networks.

OTN is a set of optical data layer standards, consisting of an architecture, a set of signal formats and multiplexing structure,
similar to SONET/SDH.
